Meet Oral Surgeon Dr. Katsnelson
Dr. Alexander Katsnelson is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Dr. Katsnelson provides the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, including removal of wisdom teeth, dental implant placement, hard and soft tissue reconstruction, treatment of oral pathology, frenectomies, and other surgeries to assist with orthodontic treatment. Dr. Katsnelson’s team is highly trained to provide these procedures safely and comfortably under local anesthesia, intravenous sedation, or general anesthesia. His clinic philosophy is to provide personalized, state-of-the-art, and innovative treatments, with a collaborative approach between the patient, referring doctor and Dr. Katsnelson.
Dr. Katsnelson graduated from Hebrew University School of Dental Medicine in Jerusalem, where he received the prestigious “Best Student of the Year Award” for 4 years. Concurrently, he earned a Master’s degree in Neurophysiology from Hebrew University School of Medicine, where he was involved in research how the brain controls motor movements. During dental school, Dr. Katsnelson became fascinated by oral and maxillofacial surgery.
After moving to Chicago, he completed an internship and the first part of residency at University of Illinois Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department where he received extensive hands-on training from outstanding mentors in outpatient oral and maxillofacial surgery as well as internal medicine, general surgery, and anesthesia. Dr. Katsnelson completed the second part of residency at Massachusetts General Hospital (Harvard Medical School), where he had extensive hands-on training with internationally renowned oral and maxillofacial surgeons. Dr. Katsnelson served as Chief Resident, cared for complicated trauma patients and performed temporomandibular joint, orthognathic, and reconstructive surgeries. During residency he completed numerous research projects which led to publications in acclaimed clinical journals, wrote chapters in textbooks, and presented at national meetings and professional conferences.
After residency, Dr. Katsnelson returned to Chicago and enjoys practicing the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery. He developed a unique surgical practice collaborating with general dentists, orthodontists, pediatric dentists, endodontists, and prosthodontists. For the past ten years, Dr. Katsnelson also has been treating facial trauma patients at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and performing complicated surgical cases at the hospital. He enjoys teaching dental residents in the General Practitioner Residency program at Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Dr. Katsnelson is a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and Illinois Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Dr. Katsnelson lives in the north suburbs of Chicago and enjoys spending his free time with his wife and son. His hobbies include traveling, hiking, music, and reading.
